Hello Again,

I want to bombard you with some facts about post-fledge Bald Eagles. Think Sunny and Gizmo. There was a post on the FOBBV FB page that I included in my morning’s blog. It is somewhat misleading and SK Hideaways and I think you need the facts!

Sunny and Gizmo are not fully independent. Jackie and Shadow will continue to feed them and teach them how to hunt for some time. It may not be on camera but they are doing it! They will hang around the area for 6-10 weeks, sometimes much more, before dispersing from their natal nest area.

Migration information for northward bound eagles from California – if Sunny and Gizmo decide to try Oregon and Washington and not try and hang around their parent’s territory. Just like the European Starlings in our garden – Jackie and Shadow will, eventually, urge Sunny and Gizmo to establish their own territory.

The funds could do so much good rather than being burned up in 15 or 20 minutes in the sky. Sorry if I sound like a party pooper. I am not, but knowing the impact that the loud noises have on domestic pets and wildlife has changed my mind about something I enjoyed for years. There is nothing more beautiful than a good fireworks display, but if we have to have them now, in this environment, go for the silent variety.
