Mainly intruder news

It’s been a busy day for intruders in Kielder Forest! First to appear – very briefly – was 2021 Theave female 565, on Nest 7.

KM18 was incubating at the time, and sent 565 packing!

Next up was 3 year old 728 from a nest in Tweed Valley Osprey Project’s area who landed on an empty Nest 5A.

And last, but far from least, was 2022 Nest 4 442/Featherstone. He brought a fish to the unused patform at Nest 2.

We still haven’t been able to establish who, if anyone, Nest 2’s PC8 is accepting. Cumbrian 280 is the osprey behind 442/Featherstone, but PC8 has rejected his attempts to mate when on the new nest. The same applies to Tweed’s 306 and the Swedish male. There were no eggs during monitoring of Nest 2 old nest yesterday.

643 is still going between Nest 5A and Nest 4. She appears to favour Nest 5A, but at this point it seems possible she is not ready to breed. She certainly is enjoying fish gifts!
