Fledging update

There has been a significant breeze in Kielder Forest today – the first for several days. Monitoring at Nest 7 recorded 3B3/Ingram flying around the fell and on and off the nest. 3B4/Ingoe exercised, including mini helicoptering, but there was no evidence of a fledge.

At Nest 10 the sole chick fed itself, watched by both parents from a branch of the nest tree. It then moved some material and laid down for a nap! It started to drizzle so monitoring ceased.

Nest 1A‘s 3B5/Irthing hasn’t been on the nestcam during streaming hours since she took off at 14.30 yesterday. Both parents have been on and off the nest today, with KF13 looking towards the T bar perches much of the time. The likelihood is that 3B5/Irthing is perched there, or somewhere on the fell. Growth in surrounding trees mean there is no longer any vantage point from adjacent fells to observe the nest area. Patience required!
