Overseas news

We have some great news of a Kielder ‘grandchick’, seen in Senegal by Jean-Marie Dupart during his monthly counts.

Blue 714 was seen on 24 September in northern Senegal.

714 is a 2024 offspring of our Nest 7 213/Donkleywood, who breeds with an unringed male in south Scotland. 2024 was their second year of breeding, and – as in 2023 – they produced one fledging. 714 looks well in Jean-Marie’s photo!

Here are maps from Jean-Marie of the location.

The bolongs, or creeks, provide excellent habitat for wintering birds.

Many thanks to Jean-Marie for the sighting and images.

Scott and Ken, who monitor 213’s nest, are thrilled with the news. They have shared a couple of photos of 714 from 2024.

Let’s hope 714 is seen in the UK in 2026!
