Darling Lewis

11 October 2023

My heart is the heaviest it has been in ages. Dear Darling Lewis passed away in my arms, wrapped tightly in his baby blankie, at 1330 this afternoon.

Over the past year, his presence in our lives brought so much joy, laughter, and companionship.

I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on him. We had gone to adopt Missey, but there was this amazing little grey tabby with white boots and bib bouncing all over the aquarium with toys flying everywhere. It was love at first sight. Lewis kept that energy and playfulness as he grew from a wee lad into a ‘big, big’ cat. He was nothing short of adorable.

One of his favourite things was watching the birds land on the glass ceiling of the conservatory or trying to fit himself into the little cabin on the cat tree. His fondness for treats was insatiable. Lewis will be forever missed and forever loved. I am so thankful for having the time to spend with him.

Tiny Lewis.

Missey sat on his carrier before he headed off to the vet. Always together. It was as if she knew what I had yet to comprehend.

Thank you to everyone for their outpouring of love and concern. Your heartfelt messages brought me much comfort in a turbulent week.

I will take a few days off from my blog to spend with the girls, integrating the three of them and spending much time with Missey, who misses her brother. Please watch the Australian nests – the little ones at Orange are changing daily. We are on pip/hatch watch at Port Lincoln, and then there are WBSE 31 and 32 who are branching and will be fledging soon. I will see you on Saturday.

😭❤️‍🩹Our dear Lewis, the man of the house, you leave a void in our hearts which your mom has so carefully and lovingly crafted for us, with pictures and words; the joy you brought to us lives on. Missey loves and misses you, I’m sure she wishes it was her that was going in the carrier. May you be granted eternal window watching, yummy treats and abundant toys. You will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Love you forever and ever.
      Hugs and purrs, 🐾💕💟

      1. Oh, how sweet, Rita. Thank you. I am going to print this and put it with his things. He was such a funny cat – I am so grateful for the laughs and all the joy and that he was a part of our lives.

    2. Thank you so much, Linda. We are really missing Lewis today. I think it is harder now than it was yesterday. The house feels very quiet and lonely without him tearing about. I am so grateful we had him in our lives for the time that we did. He was much loved – and I am thankful for all the outpourings of love and concern for him and my family. Thank you.

    1. Thank you so very much, Jill. He was so special and I am glad that he touched so many others. What a character…we are really, really missing him today and I am just heart broken that he got so sick so fast and that there was absolutely nothing that could be done to help him. He certainly was loved and he knew it, thankfully.

  3. Oh Mary Ann, I’m so very sorry for this heartbreaking news. Tears here, of empathy. You’ll be in my thoughts. ❤️

    1. Thank you so much, Betty. I really appreciate all the outpourings of love and concern for Lewis. He made our lives that much richer. We are really missing him today.

My heart is breaking for you and the other furkitties. There is nothing that is harder than the loss of a dearly loved fur companion who has given us such unconditional love their entire lives. I pray for your comfort in reliving precious memories of little Lewis. And I am sending special thoughts to Missed as she learns that her brother is no longer by her side. Comforting love and cuddles from Tasmania.

    1. Thank you so much Beverly. I have thought about you and it is so nice to hear from you. And thank you for your lovely thoughts about Lewis. He is much missed today by all of us. I have had many cats in my long life but Lewis had to be one of the sweetest – and the laughs that he gave just being himself. He is much loved and I am so grateful for all the outpourings of care.
