Update: Gumbo and Roux both tangled in line at Kistache E1

UPDATE: Both eaglets are now entangled in the fishing line. See images below. One of the local news stations is planning to cover this story. The forestry office is closed as it is a holiday today.

People are saying you cannot intervene in a situation like this. That is not true. It is human debris – it is NOT NATURE!

As many of you know I have great respect for Cody and Steve and the work they do at Kistachie. There is, however, an arborist somewhere within Louisiana that can climb that tree – or Texas! We know there are in Tennessee beause they came to rescue to the Dale Hollow eaglets.

Many of you will recall that one year we failed to get help to the Dale Hollow eaglets but the next year there was success when hundreds of peoples let those in charge know that ‘something’ was wrong. We were told the tree and nest were inaccessible? That the tree was too high? That it was dangerous? Well, the American Eagle Foundation worked with many and made it look like a cake walk! Filmed and photographed the eaglets were rescued. One died, one lived.

Now we have a similar circumstance at the E1 nest in the Kistachie National Forest.

It took more than the local news to get things moving at Dale Hollow, but it helps. The political view of the landscape towards wildlife and the environment has changed dramatically since that rescue but I would get hold of the politicians and all the USFWS personnell.

Cody and Steve have always had the eagles’ best interests in their hearts. I know that attempts have been made to get to this nest in the past. Perhaps it is impossible but, I would like to see if someone would try and save this eaglet! Remember, they said Dale Hollow was impossible!
