Jackie had complications from HPAI…late, late Wednesday in Bird World

14 October 2026

Good evening, everyone,

The final test results from Ojai Raptor Centre on Jackie’s necroscopy were released. Our beloved Bald Eagle had been very sick for a very long time. Despite this, she managed to raise two precious eaglets with Shadow this year – Luna and Sandy. What a determined, loving Mum Jackie was to the end.

Facebook post detailing the necropsy findings for Bald Eagle Patient 26-519, including information about her illness, diagnosis of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, and the care she received.

This is the link to the FAQs regarding Jackie on the website of the Ojai Raptor Centre: https://www.ojairaptorcenter.org/faq26519

Thank you to everyone who cared for Jackie and worked so hard to return her to the wilds of Big Bear Valley, her birthplace and the nest she shared with Mr B and Shadow. We will always be grateful for your efforts and your dedication.

Thank you Mary Ann! It is really sad to know how she could have survived so long with all these health issues. It had to be God! He Blessed Sandy and Luna and kept Jackie to live through it all till the end.
May Jackie forever Rest in Peace and her Legacy last forever ❤️🙏🦅
