The top three names are now posted on the Kistachie National Forest Bald Eagle streaming cam.
Those three area: Kincaid, Lucky, and Alex.
I do not know the connection for Lucky or Alex. Kincaid refers to the lake that you can see from the nest sometimes. It provides the food for all of the eagles. In keeping with staying local, Kincaid seems like a super name. Last years chick was Kisatchie after the forest that provides the nest.
To vote, please go to the streaming cam. Voting is live. When you vote you will be able to see which name is leading and you will see how many votes have been cast. Voting closes at noon on 9 February.
I went to the UK as a Commonwealth Scholar in 1990 and received my PhD from the University of Leicester in 1993. After three decades of university teaching, I retired to devote my time to the study of raptor behaviour. I am particularly interested in Ospreys and am working on a long term project on third hatch survival and siblicide in these raptors. My blog is a result of a fascination with my local wildlife and the desire to encourage others to love and care for birds! I live on the Canadian Prairies and prior to the pandemic travelled a lot. I am questioning the use of aviation fuel at the moment as we all strive to help our planet. My early research was in politics and art including British public statues exported to Southeast Asia and Vietnam Resistors that contributed much to Canadian ceramics. Books and articles were published on those subjects over a period of 3 decades. Now I am working on books for children so they can learn about the challenges our raptors face.

Kincaid sure seems to fit with the names of the other family members! And so far, so good. I was surprised at how many votes have been cast. It is an adorable not so little eaglet but what a great nest. One of the things that I enjoy about this nest is that there is no carrion. Everything is fresh out of the lake. Or has been now since the beginning of last year. Adorable family. So glad you are enjoying them.
Thanks Mary Ann! I like Kincaid! In honor of the area where the eaglet was born !❤️
Thanks for the heads up, Mary Ann. I love the name Kincaid too and voted — looks like it’s going to be the winner!

kincaid sounds good to me 🙂
Of the three that came to the top to be voted on, it is good. I wish they wouldn’t give birds names that are most associated with dogs!
Though it has been 2 years, the city east of the lake is Alexandria. People in the rural areas outside the city call it “Alex” or “Alec” for short.
