Heartbreaking news coming out of the Sydney Eagle Cam

Good Morning,
I am so very, very sorry to bring you just the saddest news.
WBSE 36 had not been seen for several days, and there has been an issue with the streaming cams. They were not turned off, but a cable was cut. Unfortunately, I received the news this morning from SK Hideaways, and it simply makes me break down and weep. Lady and Dad work so hard to raise the most beautiful eaglets. Every year, we have a great heartbreak or two. This year seemed like it was going to be golden. Let us hope that WBSE 35 is safe and keep little 36 in your heart. He or she will be added to the Memorial Wall momentarily.

I went to the UK as a Commonwealth Scholar in 1990 and received my PhD from the University of Leicester in 1993. After three decades of university teaching, I retired to devote my time to the study of raptor behaviour. I am particularly interested in Ospreys and am working on a long term project on third hatch survival and siblicide in these raptors. My blog is a result of a fascination with my local wildlife and the desire to encourage others to love and care for birds! I live on the Canadian Prairies and prior to the pandemic travelled a lot. I am questioning the use of aviation fuel at the moment as we all strive to help our planet. My early research was in politics and art including British public statues exported to Southeast Asia and Vietnam Resistors that contributed much to Canadian ceramics. Books and articles were published on those subjects over a period of 3 decades. Now I am working on books for children so they can learn about the challenges our raptors face.

Just devastated by this loss. I am sad beyond words but still hoping SE35 will fare better. We watchers of this disappointing nest had allowed ourselves to be buoyed by hope for both fledglings this season. It wasn’t to be. As I seek out happier news, though, I see that Beau and Gabby have a second egg at NEFL. A great love built on a great loss.
