Elen is home at Glaslyn!

Oh, what a day to start the spring equinox. Elen has arrived at her nest in Glaslyn. Now…who will be her mate this season and will there be chaos or eggs?

Aran and Mrs G were the ospreys at the Glaslyn nest. Mrs G was replaced by Elen who bred with Aran and then Aran returned late in 2025. A young bird, Teifi, hooked up with Elen but there was a chaotic year and no chicks were produced.

Will Aran return early and reclaim his nest? Will Teifi? Will neither? We wait.

Update on Brutus from the Winter Park, Florida nest:

There is growing concern this morning about the fate of M15’s mate, F23. Suspicions about what happened at a nearby chicken far with the dear female being shot continue to gain some validity as the carcass of the eagle was ‘dumped’ instead of being handed over to the repository so that the feathers could be used in Indigenous ceremonies as is mandated by USFWS.

Fridge Friday for the Kakapo:

Cameras are live at Lyn Clywedog in preparation for the arrival of Dylan and Blye 5F Seren.

At Cornell University’s Red tail Hawk nest, Big Red is definitely thinking about eggs.

Obviously there will be more arrivals – probably the minute I hit submit! Keep your eyes on those UK osprey streaming cams!

Where is F23?

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Concern is growing over F23, the mate of M15 at the SW Florida Bald Eagle nest. She has been an incredible mate and mum and E26 is nearly ready to fledge having branched a few days ago.

I have to say that when I saw this, my heart sank. The only good thing is that M15 is well prepared, having raised two eaglets from one month to fledge after Harriet went missing.

There is no word about Mr North either and Mrs DNF and MU are in the nest.

Jolene and Boone have their first hatch at the Johnson City ETSU nest.

Another egg:

Honestly, I am having trouble keeping track of all the eggs being laid, branching, hatching – thank goodness the ospreys are not arriving yet in the UK.

Brutus and Peanut ate well on Saturday. Peanut? Peanut might be bigger than Brutus by the time they fledge.

The kids at Dade ate well, too!

Ferris Akel found Big Red and Arthur today on his tour. This is a great way to end this short post. Send best wishes to all the raptor families but a little more for F23 to return home safe.

On the Canadian Prairies, it is cold. Was -28 C this morning and Toby took one sniff of the freezing air and decided that ‘going on the potty pads’ was what was going to happen this morning. He’s very good. He might be able to win at darts!

We are moving my office, clearing boxes, and waiting for a new Magic Mouse from Apple to arrive. Toby and Hugo Yugo are having a nice nap in the conservatory.

In the garden, the European Starlings are gathering in mass.

The wait is now over. E26 is officially named and hatched. What a marvellous, strong little eaglet! This one is going to keep M15 and F23 busy.

M15 brought a fish for 23 and they shared it.

Hello Everyone,

What a day! It is beautiful weather on the Canadian Prairies, unseasonably warm while it is also unseasonably hot in Big Bear Valley and everyone is wondering if Jackie and Shadow will delay eggs for a bit. The big news is coming to us from Fort Myers Florida, where M15 and his second mate, F23, now have their first egg kicking off the 2025 Bald Eagle season in Southwest Florida. Congratulations to the Pritchett Family and all who love these eagles.
