Eagle takes oldest Cowlitz osplet

16 June 2022

Sadly, my list of predations this year continues to get longer. Once Bald Eagles or GHOWs (other hawks, etc) know where there is easy prey they usually go after it until all is gone.

Sadly, the Cowlitz PUD Osprey nest lost a second chick – the oldest just a short while ago. Thank you to ‘C’ for alerting me to this incident.

Oh, this nest was doing so well this year compared to previous years. Hopefully, one parent will sit on that last chick! and not leave the nest.

Thank you to the Cowlitz PUD Osprey nest where I took my video clip.

Oh no! This is just so sad! That eagle may come back for the other little one!
Mom please stay on the nest with the baby. 🙏❤️💕

  2. Lisa says:

All are gone. Devastating and my heartfelt condolences to all of the Cowlitz viewers. No words….

  3. Oh Mary Ann – I live just minutes away from this nest and didn’t even know about it until you wrote about it here. My son even took a picture of an Osprey flying around the nearby park yesterday, which was probably the dad. It would’ve been just a little while before the first baby was taken. I’m just devastated this happened, and that all are gone now. If only birds didn’t eat other birds…. 💔 Tears….

    1. It is absolutely tragic, Betty. I feel so bad for these osprey parents – and of course, the chicks. I do not know if it would have helped if the Mum had just sat on the chicks and pancaked, too. We will never know sadly.

  4. Akane says:

I subscribe to Cowlitz Osprey’s channel and received the sad news via video…. I am shocked and speechless. I can’t believe the bald eagles took all the osprey chicks… Very sad.
