I would like to introduce you to a special falcon nest in Poland. There is a link below where you can also find the home page for the Polish falcon project. It talks about the huge effort to reintroduce the falcons – that were once plentiful all over Poland – back to the country after their demise. The nest I chose to show you is very different from any falcon nests that you might have seen.
We are used to seeing falcons in a scrape box or using a cliff ledge but this family uses a normal twig nest. It is believed that it was once used by a pair of White-tail Eagles.
The nest is located in the Forestry District Barlinek.
Between 2001-06, twenty-three falcons were released in this area. It was hoped that some of the birds would resettle and raise their families here. The male at the nest is Borek and the female is Zdenka. There is some understanding that the male may be related to falcons released in the forest.

I will be doing a nest check much later today. At the National Arboretum, DC9 was banded this morning. The bander believes the chick to be a male. I will have information on that event and a check in to see how the Denton Homes adults are doing.
