9 July 2024 Good Morning Everyone, ‘The Girls’ bring me so much comfort when the days are sad and long. I cannot imagine a world without them or Mr Crow screaming at me or the little squirrels running around the deck and the feeders. They help to bring a sense of calm when things justContinue reading “Heat hitting US Osprey Nests…Tuesday in Bird World”
Darling died
8 July 2024 Hello Everyone, I have just received the sad news from Heidi. I know that many of you would want to know. We are beyond sad at the turn of events with our Ospreys over the past few weeks. Condolences to all at Captiva and Window to Wildlife.
Too many deaths…Monday in Bird World
8 July 2024 Good Morning! Oh, Sunday was a joyful and a tearful day. My superb neighbours have moved. To their little daughter, I was the ‘Tomato Fairie’. She loved the little grape tomatoes and paper baskets of them appearing regularly on her front porch. I shall miss them terribly. Friends visited, and later, weContinue reading “Too many deaths…Monday in Bird World”
Golden Eaglet kills Sibling, Darling catches a fish, Blue survives another day…Sunday in Bird World
7 July 2024 Good Morning Everyone, Oh, goodness. The operative word in parts of North America is ‘hot’. It is not as hot as it has been in Winnipeg – say last summer when we reached 38 degrees C and that might still happen – but, it is ‘hot’ and humid. The garden feels likeContinue reading “Golden Eaglet kills Sibling, Darling catches a fish, Blue survives another day…Sunday in Bird World”
Saturday in Bird World
6 July 2024 Good Morning, As I write, it is 25 degrees C in Winnipeg, and it is mid-morning. The birds in the garden are taking advantage of the water, having had their seeds, peanuts, and cheese dogs put in dishes very, very early. I am hoping that the shaded tunnel areas we have createdContinue reading “Saturday in Bird World”

5 July 2024 Good Morning Everyone, I am recovering from a bad reaction to a medication which I took Wednesday evening. I will first touch upon some of the nests that have been having issues and some announcements in case this posting turns out to be shorter than I imagine. First, an update on NoxContinue reading “Darling is Rescued…Friday in Bird World”

Ringing, lots of ringing…Wednesday in Bird World
3 July 2024 Good Morning, It’s the middle of the week. I thought we would have a wonderful Tuesday. It looked like a great day for a long walk at the nature centre and then the rains came – pouring rain you could hardly see 3 metres in front of you. And then finally theContinue reading “Ringing, lots of ringing…Wednesday in Bird World”
Chicks arrived safely…Tuesday in Bird World
2 July 2024 Good Morning Everyone, It is Monday evening. Thank you for your notes. My DIL is safe as is the Island of Grenada. The small island of Carriacou was almost destroyed. It is a beautiful little place reached by boat from Grenada that holiday makers particularly enjoy. I am hoping that no oneContinue reading “Chicks arrived safely…Tuesday in Bird World”
A final fish from Louis for his chicks
1 July 2024 I thought this was too special to put in the main blog this morning. It brought tears to my eyes. We wish the chicks well and good health, much fish, a safe migration and return in 2025 to Dorcha and Louis. Thanks, Geemeff.
